Je Suis Charlie Paris
Today is a significant date for France and the world. It’s a day when people united to say ‘ I am not afraid’. Leaders of over 40 countries united and locked arms in a show of strength. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, atheists and more all united in strength.
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity
The single aim was to show their desire to maintain core values for their society. For the French this is ‘Liberté, égalité, fraternité’. Translated this means ‘liberty, equality, fraternity’. Liberty is to guarantee social and political freedoms to all citizens. Equality is where all people within society have the same status, regardless of gender, race, age or religion. Fraternity is an ethical relationship between people, based on love and solidarity.
While all these may not be truly possible, either in the real or virtual world, they are a wonderful ideal to work towards.
Je Suis Charlie London
Second Life London has similar values and ideals. No one should be bullied or pushed around because of their differences. People should all treated with respect and abuse should not tolerated. After that people should have freedom to do what they want to do. They enjoy chatting, hanging out in the park, living in their homes and shopping.
Freedom in Second Life London
Freedom to choose is an important thing for us all. It walks hand in hand with free will. The ability to go where you please and do what you want – as long as it harms no one else. This is a basic need of all humanity. Today was a day where over a million people in France said ‘non’ to abuse.
This is a message we all want to spread. Part of this may also be the ‘pass it forward’ movement. If we all passed something forward as best we can, it would make each of our lives better. A kind word, a few coins, a nice dress, a free photo – all these acts of kindness help to unite us in brotherhood.
The London sims have a strong sense of belonging and brotherhood between its citizens. London is home to many who have residences there. It’s also home to many who visit and who were ‘born’ there.
So let’s all learn today that this is the most important thing of all. Brotherhood, kindness, tolerance and equality. If you’re reading this as part of the London community in Second Life. Thank you for having all these qualities.
