Moments Ballroom treated us to a reflective night of pure D-I-S-C-O! Thanks to JBGoode and Jayde everyone had a great time there. JB played massive hits of that era, including numbers by Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Jackson and all the major Disco artists of the 70’s.
Disco became really popular in the mid 1970’s, where it was a push back from the heavily rock-influenced music of the early 70’s. Disco appeared around ’73 / ’74 but Disco wasn’t mainstream at that time. Nobody used the term “Disco” until mid-late ’74. The first article about disco being written in September 1973 by Vince Aletti in Rolling Stone magazine.
Disco only became dominant for a few years and became the cornerstone of the film ‘Saturday Night Fever’. But by 1979, an anti-disco protest in Chicago meant that it struggled to get air play and helped it to it’s demise. Currently there is a great deal of interest in this musical era, which made the evening all the more exciting. JBGoode let the night run on and was rewarded with some of the guys acting the fool. A fantastic night full of laughter and great music was to be had at Moments Ballroom. DJ Goode was spinning some amazing hits from the 70’s and 80’s. Looking forward to the next event …. Halloween Ballroom!
