1 hours to Zero SLT
(UK 7am / SLT 11pm) is when much of Canada and America will be in the midst of celebration, with half still in 2014 and half already in the New Year, making resolutions they will break in a few days’ time. In Canada people from Alberta, The south-eastern communities of British Columbia (Cranbrook, Golden and Invermere), Northwest Territories, Nunavut Kitikmeot Region, and Saskatchewan Lloydminster will be first-footing with their bottle and coal.
In Mexico, people of Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Sonora State will be following Spanish tradition and (8 hours after Spain) will be eating 12 grapes and making a wish for each one. The grapes represent the 12 months of the next year. A sweet grape means it will be a good month but a sour grape means expect a bad month.
Meanwhile in the US, people all over the place will still be dropping things! In Flagstaff, Arizona they will now be dropping a massive pine cone outside the Weatherford Hotel.
Another tradition, this time in Montana, claims that if you say this poem three times: “St. Anne St. Anne, send me a man as fast as you can” as the clock’s striking midnight on New Year’s Eve, you’ll be engaged within the year. So if you’re single and wanting to be partnered, try it – wherever you are!
