Londoners Visit Second Pride Parade
Second Pride inSL
This Weekend was ‘Pride’ Weekend in London. In Second Life there was also a great pride event too – Second Pride 2014 held on the Second Pride sims.
From Firemen, to builders and showers of men. It was all that could be asked for – so take yourself along to Second Pride and explore the events there for you this week.
So us Londoners decided to go along and see what was going on there. To our surprise, there was a huge carnival with floats on all sorts of Pride themes.
Pride is all about freedom to be yourself and not judged or stereotyped, just to be treated as yourself. Not to be bullied for who you are or what you stand for. We were proud to join in the fun at Second Pride and be ourselves and not judged.
We tried out the carnival rides and floats. It was a real surprise to experience them because they were so good. All we needed were Oculus Rift headsets and we would have been there!
Pride London is an annual event held on the 28th June every year. This year Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst crowned the biggest ever Pride in London. Over 30,000 participants attended in the pouring rain. This included the biker boys. As you can see, Second Life also had our own London Biker Boy too.
Pride London’s mission is “To provide an annual opportunity to generate celebratory, cultural, artistic and educational events which affirm the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, and two-spirited people, and supporters through activities which promote unity, inclusion, and awareness of sexual and gender diversity.”
Saturday 28th June was the biggest Pride parade London has seen in years, with personal messages of support coming in from Kylie Minogue, David Cameron, Tom Daley, Stephen Fry and Sir Ian McKellen. Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst played her first UK concert to a 10,000 strong audience in Trafalgar Square, calling for ‘love, respect and tolerance’ around the world.
The huge crowds lining Oxford Street, and Regent Street were showered in confetti and glitter as over 200 groups, including dozens of floats, made their way to Trafalgar Square.

Debs spoke with FrannyDJ Dean about the Second Pride event in Second Life. Franny was very modest about the whole thing, which was rich in colour, entertainment and images. She had a blast with us Londoners and let Debs know the parade will be there until it’s torn down.
Franny was delighted to see the video we took of the event.
Franny informed Debs that this was the first ever moving parade in Second Life and that she’s been perfecting the parade since 2007. The parade features many innovated scripts that no one else has done in Second Life before.
The animations are interactive – sit, ride and play!! Each animation has its own music and attachments that have never been done in Second Life. So try it out for yourself today.
FrannyDJ said “I love to see people forget their cars and have fun” – drop by and forget your car too.
