St Mary Abbot’s Church, a set on Flickr.

Yes we have Church in virtual worlds too. Even replicas of the real thing. Such as St Mary Abbot’s Church in Kensington. What a beauty she is too. It has the tallest spire in real London and in Second Life London.

The Church in SL London is an artistic interpretation the neo-Gothic Early English church initially built in 1872 by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. The church we have designed from has similarities to Dunblane Cathedral on which the west front’s tall window and carved tympanum is loosely based. The spire takes its inspiration from St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol.

Aubrey de Vere (a Norman knight) bequeathed the original church in Kensington to the Abbey of St Mary at Abingdon after his son was miraculously ‘cured’ by its Abbot Faritius way back in around 1100.

Since then famous parishioners have included our current Prime Minister, David Cameron as well as Diana, Princess of Wales, Beatrix Potter, Sir Isaac Newton and Michael Gove.

Come along to the Kensington W8 London sim to see this fabulous place of worship.
