UK Pancake Day in Real and Second Life by Jas (Blog 240)

Shrove Tuesday

In the UK Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day. Shrove Tuesday is a day to confess your sins ( there`s plenty of them going on in SL!) and is always held 40 days before Easter. It signals the beginning of Lent- a period of abstinence- in the Christian faith. The pancake tradition started as people needed to use up the foods that they would not be allowed during Lent – such as butter and eggs. It was also, a day to stuff yourself silly to keep your sweet tooth at bay until Easter!
Tossing the pancake

” But, baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you this
Song is meant to keep you
From doing what you’re supposed to.
Waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep in
Make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it’s the weekend now”

Banana Pancakes

sung by Jack Johnson

Inspired by the song above I decided to try and cook some Second Life pancakes.

‘What about them?’

‘We both got so obsessed about that first pancake being thrown away that we forgot something really important,’ Max explained. ‘That first pancake tastes just as good as all the other ones. It’s not its fault that it was first in line and the pan wasn’t hot enough so it got a bit lumpy and misshapen.’

‘And when you’re really famished that first pancake tastes better than all the ones that come after it,’ Neve said..”

The oldest recorded Pancake Race took place in Olney in Berkshire in 1445.According to myth it began when a woman who was cooking pancakes realised that she was late for the Shrove Tuesday Church service and ran there without remembering to discard her pan or it
s contents. The tradition is still continued in the town today (see above) and in many other places throughout the UK.

Snapshot_001 (13)Look out in Second Lifes London Sims tonight, though, as Ive bought a spanking frying pan and I intend to use it!

But dont worry too much. I think Warren Farell might have been describing me when he said "I'm an awfully loyal friend. Once I've started a relationship with someone, it's like they are syrup and I'm a pancake."

PS: Chubby Checkers have an event at 12pm SLT and Northcliffe Coyotes
is at 5pm.
